You have chosen to dedicate your time in Renatus serving the Order of the Twelve. It is a difficult path you have chosen, one fraught with danger and hardship. But in the end, you will learn many of the secrets that Renatus has hidden beneath its soil.
The monks of the Order of the Twelve serve as guides to the citizens of Renatus. They can be hired out as guides to the quests that are found scattered among the four corners of the map. These quests take travelers from the highest peaks of the mountains, down to the very bedrock upon which Renatus is built. Some are quests of adventure, meant to challenge the skill and bravery of travelers. Some are quests of discovery, meant to bring travelers to the remote corners of Renatus and marvel at its splendor. Some are quests which will help advance the cities in their growth. And some are meant to uncover the secrets of the world itself, and the societies that have long passed.
Monks must renounce all worldly goods. They must tithe half of their income back to the monastery. They cannot use swords. They can only use what the monastery provides for them. They must not kill unless in self-defense or to protect those they have been charged to defend.
The steps required to become a monk are many.
If, in their travels, a monk finds and reports a mob spawner that has not yet been preserved by the Order, upon preservation, their involuntary tithe to the monastery is forever relieved.

- Spoiler:
Once a traveler has mastered three challenges, they are allowed to petition to become a monk of the Order. Monks are required to undergo a purging fire, in which they renounce all worldly goods and step into a cleansing flame. They are then reborn anew, and may begin their life as a monk.- Spoiler:
The life of a monk is a simple one. You start in your chambers, a simple cubicle of stone carved from the stone of the Sanctuary Mountains. You have nothing but a bed, a cauldron, and a single candle. You can use tools and supplies provided by the monastery in the common chest, but they must be destroyed or returned when a given quest is done.- Spoiler:
Your first task is to search for patience. You will travel to our farm, located in the heart of the sanctuary mountains, accessible from the passage within the main hall. There you will find grain, melons, pumpkins, and sugar cane. You must harvest two melons from the same vine. This means you cannot leave until a new melon has grown in place of the one you have harvested. Once you have harvested two melons, you have learned what it means to stop and appreciate the moments of life that others tend to rush through. Savor those melons, my student. They represent your time and investment achieving spiritual enlightenment.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for knowledge. You must cut down a tree near the farm, replant a sapling in its place, and harvest some sugar cane from the farm. When you have the necessary materials, you may construct a bookshelf using the monastery's crafting bench. Once you have gathered the materials and crafted the bookshelf, you have learned the value of seeking knowledge on your own, rather than waiting for knowledge to be imparted upon you. You are now entitled to keep that bookshelf in your chambers.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for beauty. You must find the materials needed to craft a painting. Once you have crafted a painting, you have learned to appreciate the beauty of the world around you in all of its forms. This painting can then be hung in the center of your rear wall. Only a single square painting a foot in each dimension will be allowed, and no two monks can have the same image represented.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for individuality. Now that you have learned sacrifice and shown that you are willing to give all to the church, you must find materials to construct a small chest. Once this is complete, the abbot will give you some items, and you'll be able to keep your valuables here. Please keep in mind that theft of another person's items is grounds for expulsion from the Order (and the server!)- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for beasts of burden. Col has put many animals here for our benefit. Lure two of any needed animal into the holding pen next to the farm. Once you have done this, you have learned to use all that Col has provided for us, and are allowed to harvest goods from the animals for use on quests or in the monastery. All harvested materials not immediately used must be placed in the common chest.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for sacrifice. The monks keep nothing more than they need to survive. Cull the herds of wild animals that can be found on the cliffs surrounding Dunatis, and sacrifice them to Col by getting them off the cliffs (either by killing them or luring them down to the flat lands). Once you have accomplished this, you have learned that to rid yourself of excess is to trust Col to provide for you. This may be required more than once.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for order. The sanctuary is subject to the forces of time and chaos. Creeper attacks, entropy, and the occasional evil Enderman may leave the sanctuary in disrepair. You must repair any damage you see, clear vines and broken bricks from the observatory, and repair any cracked stone with pristine stone blocks. Once you do this, you have learned that while entropy requires nothing, order requires constant vigilance. This task may be required more than once.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for chaos. The magical forces that have been unleashed onto the world are wild and chaotic. You must search the world for the ingredients to craft an enchantment table. When this is accomplished, you have learned the value of hard work to achieve enlightenment. Only when you have successfully crafted an enchantment table are you ready to take the final steps to becoming an Acolyte of the Order of the Twelve.- Spoiler:
Your next task is to search for self. You must purge yourself of all items and make the Great Pilgrimage from Dunatis, through the Shadowglen Forest, past Laverna, past Nilsbane, through the four villages, past Thetis, and through Col's Cradle, to end up on Mt. Pinnacle, in the Baldur Mountains. You may only defend yourself with your bare hands. You may only kill what you need to sate your hunger, and discard the rest for the hungry animals. Only when you reach Mt. Pinnacle and look back on the path you took will you become an Acolyte, and be trusted with the secrets of Dunatis.
